With President Biden’s poll numbers in the tank, and with his Vice President’s poll numbers even worse, Democrats are beginning to look for alternatives in 2024.
The problem, as Joe Concha so eloquently put it in his column in The Hill, is the Democrats’ bench:
The Democratic bench is about as deep as the New York Jets’ these days. Vice President Harris? She’s at 28 percent approval, per USA Today. Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo? No longer governor and thoroughly disgraced. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.)? He had to spend major time and resources just to avoid being ousted in deep-blue California during a recall election earlier this year.
Enter Hillary Clinton. The former First Lady, the former US Senator, the former Secretary of State, and the former 2-time Presidential loser who still thinks she should be President.
Clinton famously disappeared off the national stage after her shocking loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 election, a loss that almost no one in the national media predicted – and a loss Clinton herself never even contemplated.
Recently, Clinton has abandoned her ‘Grandma walking in the woods’ routine and has certainly started looking and sounding a lot like a potential 2024 candidate:
Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has been showing up — at conferences, on streaming services, on Twitter, and now in chatter over whether her party’s problems create an opening for another White House bid.
In an interview with Willie Geist of NBC’s The Today Show, Clinton appeared to relish the opportunity to face off again with former President Trump:
“If I were a betting person right now, I’d say Trump is going to run again,” she said in an excerpt of the interview shown on TODAY Friday. “But I want people to understand that this is a make-or-break point.”
Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 election, believes America faces a clear choice.
“Are we going to give in to all these lies and this disinformation and this organized effort to undermine our rule of law and our institutions, or are we going to stand up to it?” she asked.
Its not entirely clear if Democrats are as enthusiastic about a third Hillary tilt at the Presidency as she might be,
“There’s no appetite. None. Zero. I love her to death, but no,” a former swing state Democratic Party chair, and Clinton surrogate in 2008, told the Washington Examiner. “You’ve got to win. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed.”
While it may be unclear what appetite the average Democratic voter or donor has for Hillary 3.0, I can say without a doubt that for me – SIGN ME UP!
Absolutely nothing would do more to rinse out the bad taste in my mouth left by 2020 and 2021 quite like the delicious prospects of a Hillary Clinton vs Donald Trump rematch!
I know that many of you reading this might be thinking, “God isn’t it time we moved on” and the answer is absolutely not.
Lets be clear, the reason the first Hillary – Trump matchup was as exciting and as consequential as it was is because it gave voters a dramatic difference in the choices at the top of the ticket.
Hillary Clinton is the living embodiment of the globalist left. Her agenda isn’t hidden, she isn’t trying to sell Americans some whitewashed Trojan horse like Biden sold, Hillary is unapologetic about who she is and what she stands for.
Like Hillary, Trump is also unapologetic in what he stands for and in the style in which he delivers his opinions. And while Hillary is the living embodiment of the globalist left, Trump is the living embodiment of the nationalist right.
Give the American voters what they deserve – a bare knuckles brawl between two candidates who represent two entirely different world views.
We don’t need a milquetoast race between Mayor Pete and Mike Pence, we don’t need a race between candidates who try to hide what they stand for, and we don’t need a feel good race between two fresh faces.
We need the Clash of the Titans, we need Hillary vs Trump 2.0!
