Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) revealed that she has been in therapy to learn to cope with the “extraordinarily traumatizing” Capitol protest in January.
The New York socialist appeared on the Latino USA podcast where she opened up about the trauma she experienced.
“You have this transition period of escalating violence, which really culminated on the 6th, for which was an extraordinarily traumatizing event that’s not really being discussed,” she claimed despite the media and Democrats focusing on the events ad nauseam since January.
AOC noted it was Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) who pointed out she had experienced trauma.
“She was like, ‘You need to recognize trauma,’ Ocasio-Cortez relayed saying Pressley told her it’s “important to pause” because “that’s how you process it.”
The Democrat compared coping with the aftermath of the Capitol protest with dealing with the death of her father.
“Oh yeah, I’m doing therapy but also I’ve just slowed down,” she added.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she’s attending therapy after the Capitol riot.
“Oh yeah, I’m doing therapy but also I’ve just slowed down. I think the Trump administration had a lot of us, especially Latino communities, in a very reactive mode.” https://t.co/USHm1Ngll2
Ocasio-Cortez, who has a flair for overdramatizing even the most trivial of events, wasn’t through overdramatizing the Capitol protest either.
She went on to describe how the “terrorists, insurrectionists got into the Senate chamber,” said the country was roughly “60 seconds” away from “a martial state,” and added the protest “was an all-out attempted coup.”
“If 60 seconds went differently, if a different door was opened, if a chair wasn’t barricaded in a certain way, we could have a completely different reality right now. We don’t want to acknowledge that that’s how close we got, but that is how close we got.”
AOC also dabbled in the constant claim that Trump supporters involved in the protest were motivated not by election integrity but by her favorite boogeyman – white supremacy.
“They were looking for us, and we were not protected,” she claimed.
“White supremacy in and of itself is a mythology, and you have to protect it in order to protect that political power, which has now become a very important base in the Republican Party.”
She Previously Claimed Ted Cruz Almost Had Her ‘Killed’
AOC has previously accused Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) of trying to have her “killed” during the Capitol protest and suggested anyone downplaying her trauma was using tactics deployed by sexual abusers.
“The reason I’m getting emotional in this moment is because these folks who tell us to move on, that it’s not a big deal, that we should forget what’s happened, or even telling us to apologize, these are the same tactics of abusers,” Ocasio-Cortez said in an Instagram video in February.
“I’m a survivor of sexual assault, I haven’t told many people that in my life,” she added. “As a survivor, I struggle with the idea of being believed.”
AOC’s livestream WAS manipulative and @mtracey was right to say so. Sexual assault and trauma are not weapons to be used to win political arguments.
Perhaps AOC should be in therapy to deal with the constant web of insanity she weaves in trying to score political points off the Capitol protest.
USA Today reported back in January that federal authorities admitted there was “no direct evidence of kill and capture teams” among those involved in the Capitol protests.
U.S. Attorney for D.C. Michael Sherwin said there was no “direct evidence” to back the claims, multiple reports alleged, despite AOC’s suggestion that she was almost murdered.
“Right now, we don’t have any direct evidence of kill/capture teams,” Sherwin told reporters.
“Earlier on Friday, Michael Sherwin, acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, backed away from the assassination claims, saying they have “no direct evidence at this point of kill, capture teams.”
“If this was the journey that my life was taking, that I felt that things were going to be OK,” Ocasio-Cortez has said in retelling her story of hiding from those who had breached the Capitol. “I had fulfilled my purpose.”
According to AOC’s own account, she was in the Cannon House Office Building at the time of the events, later moving to the Longworth building at the request of police.
Fact-checkers have provided cover for AOC by saying she never actually claimed to have been in the Capitol building and never said she was face-to-face with the mob.
I’m not certain a Republican would get away with the obvious insinuations AOC is by saying she and her fellow lawmakers were almost “killed” and that she was now in therapy over “an extraordinarily traumatizing event.”
