Yesterday, Dr. Anthony Fauci dropped the mask and lost all pretense of objectivity when he was asked about Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) wanting to have him prosecuted. Senators want him investigated by the Department of Justice for lying about gain-of-function research, a topic that our Scott Hounsell has covered in great detail.
Fauci’s response showed what an authoritarian partisan hack he truly is.
First, instead of actually trying to justify his actions, he took a nasty false shot at Cruz.
“Yeah. I have to laugh at that,” he deflected. “I should be prosecuted? What happened on Jan. 6, Senator?”
Fauci went on to claim that the people questioning him were “really criticizing science because I represent science.” He claimed they were doing something “dangerous” because it might “damage science.”
“And if you’re attacking me, you’re really attacking science. I mean, everybody knows that,” Fauci claimed.
Really? Since when did Fauci become the inviolate, unquestioned God of Science? As I said last night, his very comment is not even what science is. Science is inherently about questioning and evolving your thought based upon testing theories, not shutting down questions through authoritarian dictate. It’s as if he doesn’t even understand that.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) took him to the cleaners and hung him out to dry with his response, chastising him for his “absolute hubris.”
The absolute hubris of someone claiming THEY represent science. It’s astounding and alarming that a public health bureaucrat would even think to claim such a thing, especially one who has worked so hard to ignore the science of natural immunity. https://t.co/rcDezphVRR

“It’s astounding and alarming that a public health bureaucrat would even think to claim such a thing, especially one who has worked so hard to ignore the science of natural immunity,” Paul tweeted. Indeed, it’s dangerous when you have a bureaucrat in such a position, wielding such power, thinking he is unquestionable.
Then, Cruz responded and completely took Fauci apart. In lawyer-like fashion, Cruz eviscerated Fauci in a simple clear way in five tweets.
Fauci is an unelected technocrat who has distorted science and facts in order to exercise authoritarian control over millions of Americans.
He lives in a liberal world where his smug “I REPRESENT science” attitude is praised.
Here are the facts:
(1) On May 11, Fauci testified before a Senate Committee that “the NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”
(2) On October 20, NIH wrote they funded an experiment at the Wuhan lab testing if “spike proteins from naturally occurring bat coronaviruses circulating in China were capable of binding to the human ACE2 receptor in a mouse model.” That is gain of function research.
(3) Fauci’s statement and the NIH’s October 20 letter cannot both be true. The statements are directly contradictory.
(4) 18 USC 1001 makes it felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison, to lie to Congress.
No amount of ad hominem insults parroting Democrat talking points will get Fauci out of this contradiction.
Fauci either needs to address the substance—in detail, with specific factual corroboration—or DOJ should consider prosecuting him for making false statements to Congress.
No deflection, no “I represent science.” No hiding behind liberal talking points while pretending to be objective. Answer the question.
The bottom line is that for too long, the fate of the country has been put in the hands of unelected bureaucrats like Fauci, who aren’t concerned about the harm they have been doing. Nor have they been required to justify their actions or been held accountable, including for the many, many times they have been wrong. They want to continue to play this control game and won’t rule out new lockdowns, even over a new variant that they know very little about.
Fauci is not answering that question that Cruz raised, indeed, he isn’t even acknowledging that Cruz raised it, he’s trying to obscure it with a partisan attack and deflection about how he’s “science.” That tells us everything we need to know right there.
