On Sunday, Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL), one of the two ‘Never Trump’ Republicans on the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol, revealed that the committee is investigating whether former President Donald Trump engaged in any sort of criminal action that day.
During an appearance on CNN’s ‘State of the Union,’ host Jake Tapper asked Kinzinger if the committee believed Trump committed any kind of criminal offense on Jan. 6.
Kinzinger replied, “Yes, we’re looking.”

Committee ‘Getting To The Bottom’ Of Jan. 6 Attack
For all of Kinzinger and the rest of the committee’s apparent zeal to convict somebody of something related to Jan. 6, Kinzinger would not come out and say whether he himself believed Trump was guilty of any crimes.
Kinzinger said to Tapper, “I’m not ready to go there yet. But I sure tell you I have a lot of questions about what the president was up to.” He continued, “We want to know, though, and I think we will, by the end of our investigation and by the time our report is out, have a pretty good idea.”
He added,
“Nobody, Jake, is above the law. Nobody. Not the president — he’s not a king — not former presidents, they aren’t former kings. Nobody is above the law. And if the president knowingly allowed what happened on Jan. 6 to happen, and, in fact, was giddy about it, and that violates a criminal statute, he needs to be held accountable for that.”
Breaking: Following @FDRLST reporting that Adam Schiff and his staff doctored a text message between Jim Jordan and former WH chief of staff Mark Meadows, the House Jan. 6 committee has just admitted that it did, in fact, doctor the text message.https://t.co/78aRNyOib7

Committee Talking To Senior Trump Officials
One of the more high profile former Trump officials that the committee has focused on is former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. Meadows had been cooperating with the committee, saying that he was willing to answer questions he believed not to be covered by executive privilege, but stopped when the committee sought his private phone records.
The committee has since recommended meadows for prosecution for criminal contempt of congress charges.
Last week it was revealed that several Fox News hosts, including Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and Brian Kilmeade, as well as Donald Trump Jr. had sent Meadows text messages the day of the riot, telling Meadows to encourage the President to make a statement to quell the violence.
Kinzinger also said to Jake Tapper,
“I want to hold the people guilty accountable, but I want to make sure this never happens again. Otherwise, Jan. 6 will have been, yes, a failed trial run, but, sometimes, a failed trial run is the best practice to get one that succeeds, a coup that would succeed in toppling our government.”
The Jan 6 Committee unintentionally debunked their entire stated reason for being by leaking the Meadows texts
They found evidence that proved there was no insurrection
But for some reason they haven’t disbanded yet – hmmmm
