According to the White House, on Wednesday President Joe Biden will outline new gun control measures, as the administration seeks to tie gun ownership to the sharp rise in violent crime in major American cities.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki discussed the president’s upcoming speech during her Monday press briefing.

“The president feels a lot — a great deal of the crime we’re seeing — is as a result of gun violence,” said Psaki said Monday. “You can expect he’ll speak to that and his commitment to continuing to address gun violence and gun safety in the country.” https://t.co/9BmhV67xy2

Psaki: Biden Believes ‘A Great Deal Of The Crime We’re Seeing Is A Result Of Gun Violence’

Psaki said, “The President feels a lot — a great deal of the crime we’re seeing is a result of gun violence.”

She added, “You can expect he’ll speak to that and his commitment to continuing to address gun violence and gun safety in the country.”

FBI data shows that murders have gone up 25 percent under Biden and violent crime has risen about three percent.

Psaki said Tuesday that is was likely that Biden would also say that violent crime in America’s major cities went up while Trump was still in the White House.

“There’s been actually a rise in crime over the last five years, but really the last 18 months,” Psaki said.

Among the gun measures Biden will implement, according to Axios:

  • Biden will set “a new policy to revoke licenses from dealers the first time they violate federal law, barring extraordinary circumstances.
  • Set aside $350 billion from the American Rescue Plan in state and local funding to advance community policing strategies, such as investing in new technologies and bolstering prosecutions of gun traffickers.
  • Expand resources for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives resources designate a point of contact in every field division so mayors, police or other local leaders can report concerns about specific dealers’ compliance with the law.
  • Launch five multi-jurisdictional firearms trafficking strike forces to stem the flow of guns between cities and states.”

Violent Crime Surges

Yet when looking at the data, 37 cities during the first three months of the year showed an 18 percent increase in murders, compared to the same time period in 2020.

Psaki ignored a reporter question about if Biden’s strategy will “be approaching this differently than he would in the ’90s.”

“It is an area where the president feels a great deal of the crime we are seeing,” Psaki said. “You can expect that he will speak to that and his commitment to addressing gun violence and gun safety in the country.”

Psaki continued, “A long time is passed since the crime bill and ’94. He has spoken to differences in things he would stand by and might do differently.”

“I would sit on — I would not see this as a response to that, as much as conveying what he is doing now to help address the rise in crime,” she added.

In May, a Fox News poll showed that 73 percent of Americans believe crime is higher in 2021 under President Joe Biden than it was under former President Donald Trump during the same period in 2020.

Biden Reportedly Believes ‘Defund The Police’ Has Hurt Democrats

It has been reported that Biden privately believes that the “defund the police” movement has been a handicap for Democrats politically.

Meeting with civil rights leaders after the 2020 presidential election, Biden reportedly said they should not “get too far ahead ourselves on dealing with police reform.”

“That’s how they beat the living hell out of us across the country, saying that we’re talking about defunding the police,” Biden said at the time.
