“The View” co-host Joy Behar opined that black Republicans don’t know what it means to be black in America because they don’t acknowledge enough of the systemic racism oppressing the community.
Behar made the comments while the women discussed the entry of Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina into the 2024 presidential primary race.
“He’s one of these guys, who, you know, he’s like [Supreme Court Justice] Clarence Thomas, black Republican, believes in pulling yourself by your bootstraps rather than, to me, understanding the systemic racism that African-Americans face in this country, and other minorities,” Behar said.
“He doesn’t get it; neither does Clarence, and that’s why they’re Republicans!” she added.
Behar’s claim got a round of applause and laughter from the audience at “The View.”
