Controversial singer Lil Nas X pretended to be pregnant in his latest publicity stunt so he could put on an over-the-top announcement photo shoot for his upcoming Montero album’s Sept. 17 due date.

In an interview with PEOPLE magazine, the young musician said he was inspired to feign pregnancy after listening to the collaboration verse Megan Thee Stallion did for his “Dolla Sign Slime” song. He called up his hair stylist and she planted the seed in his brain by calling the debut album his “baby.”

When inquired about the parents of the love child, Lil Nas X described himself as both the mother and father. As for the producers who helped the process along, they’ve earned “Uncle” status.

On a more serious note, the writing process for his debut Montero album was done while the world was in lockdown during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Lil Nas X said he’s grown up a lot in that length of time:

“I’ve changed in so many ways. I’ve changed the way that I handle a lot of situations, the way I manage my sadness and anger and just understanding that I don’t have to react to emotions in certain ways. I can’t choose how I feel, but I can choose how to react. I’ve learned to let people’s comments roll off my back.”

Readers who don’t keep up with the world of rap music might remember the “Satan Shoes” controversy between Lil Nas X and Nike earlier this year.

What was supposed to commemorate the release of a new music video where the music icon gave a lap dance to Satan, ended up drawing ire for seemingly promoting Satanism and using blood in the shoe’s manufacturing.

Pregnant men and so-called “birthing people” emoji were formally proposed in the 14.0 set of icons earlier this year. It also marks a shift in the thinking of the Biden administration’s first year, compared to the previous Trump presidency.

There has been a conscious effort by President Joe Biden not to use the now-offensive word “mothers” but politically correct term “birthing people” instead.

But this week, the administration slipped up on their own standards. Yesterday when White House press secretary Jen Psaki was asked about how Biden balances his Catholic faith with supporting abortion, she remarked that the reporter asking that question was a man and didn’t know what getting pregnant is like.

The stance switch comes about as a result of the public attention focused on a recent abortion law being allowed to stand in Texas: one that says abortions are banned in the Lone Star State once fetal heartbeats are detected.
