New York Police Department officers on Monday began erecting barriers around a lower Manhattan courthouse for the possibility that former President Trump will soon arrive in response to being indicted for a crime and perhaps his supporter protesting, as Trump has urged them to do.
Trump said over the weekend he expects to be indicted Tuesday in connection with him having paid former porn actress Stormy Daniels about an affair that Trump denies.
If Trump is indicted the criminal case would be first against a U.S. president.
Trump’s calls for protests have raised concerns for law enforcement that supporters might engage in violence similar to what occurred at the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.
