A poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research indicates a majority of Americans disapprove of President Biden’s handling of the ongoing crisis at the border.

According to the survey, 55 percent of Americans disapprove of Biden’s handling of border security, compared to 44 percent who approve.

Another 56 percent disapprove of his handling of immigration in general, while just 42 percent approve.

A statement accompanying the poll notes that a majority of Americans would like to see the Biden administration take the border crisis more seriously.

“The Biden administration has been grappling with surging numbers of migrants, especially children arriving at the U.S. – Mexico border without their parents,” the AP-NORC write.

“Three-quarters of Americans have read or heard about the large number of children apprehended at the southern border and a majority want to see the government prioritizing the issue,” the statement continues.

Poll Shows Bad News For Biden on Border Crisis

Biden DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently admitted the United States is on pace to see the most migrants breaching the border “in the last 20 years.”

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said in an interview with Fox & Friends that Biden “just doesn’t care” about the surge of migrants at the border.

“Sometimes, when people act like they don’t care, it’s not an act. I think President Biden just doesn’t care,” Kennedy said. “I think he plans on admitting between 2 and 3 million illegal immigrants into our country this year. We had hints of that in his campaign.”

Even Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called out current conditions at the border as “horrifying” and “inhuman.”

“As we’ve seen there are arrivals and undocumented children – rather unaccompanied children that have come at the border and this had lead to completely inhuman and unacceptable, horrifying conditions of children in CBP custody,” she said during a virtual town hall.

“It’s unacceptable and it’s horrifying.”

Americans Blame Biden

And while AOC places most of the blame for the current border crisis at former President Donald Trump’s feet, most Americans disagree.

According to a new Hill-HarrisX poll, 44 percent of registered voters say Biden is to blame for the current humanitarian crisis at the border, while just 28 percent said it was Trump’s fault.

A TIPP poll conducted for the National Sheriffs’ Association last week shows Americans also favor tougher measures at the border.

“In the face of a surge in Central American migrants arriving in the United States, Americans believe that local law enforcement should prioritize enforcing immigration laws,” Sheriff Mark Daniels says.

Daniels adds that the poll shows “Americans want the government to prioritize citizens hard hit by the pandemic over migrants who have crossed the border regarding economic assistance.”

Meanwhile, news of two Yemeni men on the FBI terror watchlist being arrested trying to cross illegally into California exemplifies other dangers surrounding Biden’s mishandling of the border crisis.

It wasn’t all bad news for President Biden in the poll, however.

The AP-NORC reveals that 73 percent of Americans approve of the president’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, including nearly half of Republicans.

His overall job approval in the same poll has Biden sitting a respectable 61 percent.
